Sokoto varsity receives N1.7bn grant from TETFund in 3 years – VC



The Sokoto State University, Sokoto, said that it received over a N1.7 billion-grant between November 2013 and February 2017 from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the execution of some projects.
Vice Chancellor of SSU, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, said in Sokoto, on Wednesday, that the institution received the intervention fund following its enlistment as one of the TETFund’s beneficiary institutions.
His words, “This amount is being used to construct two large lecture theatres, the ongoing construction works on the Faculty of Science building, and the development of parks and gardens.
“Other projects include the laying of internet facilities which is to make the campus ICT complaint.’’
The V-C also said that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has donated technology equipment for the use of its Computer Science students.
“The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has also indicated its willingness to donate internet facilities to the university.
“On our part, we have already subscribed to the Nigerian Education Resource Network (NgREN).
“By this subscription, we shall enjoy efficient internet services, data storage and back up services, network-wide repositories and telemedicine services, among others,” he added.
Yaqub lauded the state government for establishing a computer-based examination centre equipped with 100 computers at the institution.
