Celebrity Big Brother 2017: All the latest rumours about this year's summer line-up

It's one of the most-beloved reality TV shows and is set to make an eagerly-anticipated comeback to Channel 5 screens, this summer.

So it's perhaps not surprising that rumours are already spreading like wildfire about who's expected to appear in the Celebrity Big Brother House when it returns for a new series in July.

Although nobody has officially confirmed their involvement yet, wicked whispers are readily doing the rounds on social media - with some surprising names being mentioned.

So who exactly is set to make an appearance in the infamous surveillance house? Here's our guide to everything we know so far...

Who will host?

Once again the reigning queen of all things CBB, Emma Willis, will host the show with Rylan hosting his spin-off Celebrity Big Brother 's Bit on the Side.

Naturally, they'll be joined by a host former housemates, such as Chloe Khan, Vanessa Feltz and Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace.

Who's are the possible housemates?

Drug mule Michaella McCollum

Controversially, convicted drug-smuggler Michaela McCollum is expected to take part in the series.

She rose to notoriety - not fame - after being jailed in peru for smuggling drugs with pal Melissa Reid.

The car crash experience was likened to the 1999 movie Brokedown Palace, which starred Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale as heroin mules in a squalid Thai prison.

McCollum's ex-boyfriend backed her to appear on the TV show - and says she deserves some good luck. DJ Brad Houston, of Wiltshire, had a brief relationship with the 23-year-old on the party island of Ibiza.

Samsung Group repeats it did not pay bribes, seek improper favours

SEOUL: South Korean conglomerate Samsung Group reiterated on Monday that it did not pay bribes or seek illicit favours in response to the special prosecutor's announcement accusing the group's leader of paying money to curry favour from President Park Geun-hye.

"Future court proceedings will reveal the truth," Samsung said in a statement.

Handcuffed and tied with white rope, the scion of one of the world's biggest conglomerates, Samsung Group, was earlier taken for questioning by South Korean authorities after spending a night in a small detention cell.

Samsung Group chief Jay Y. Lee was arrested for his alleged role in a corruption scandal that has led to the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye.

The 48-year-old Lee, who has a net worth of $6.2 billion, heads the technology giant that is the world's biggest manufacturer of smartphones, flat-screen televisions and memory chips.

Samsung is going through a restructuring to clear a succession path for Lee to assume control after his father was incapacitated by a heart attack in 2014.

Google's digital assistant comes to new Android phones

CALIFORNIA: Alphabet Inc’s Google announced on Sunday that it will bring its digital assistant to smartphones running the latest versions of its Android operating system, vastly expanding its reach.

The Google Assistant was limited to the technology company's own products when it was released last fall, but it has steadily been expanding to a broader range of devices.

Smartphones running Android accounted for 85 percent of the global market last year, according to tech research firm IDC, compared to 15 percent for Apple Inc’s iOS.

The Google Assistant will roll out this week to English speakers in the United States with phones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the company said.

English speakers in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom will gain access to the assistant next, followed by German speakers in Germany, and the company is working on support for additional languages.

Voice-powered digital assistants have been largely a novelty for consumers since Apple's Siri introduced the technology to the masses in 2011. But many in the industry believe the technology will soon become one of the main ways users interact with devices, and Apple, Google and Amazon.com Inc are racing to present their assistants to as many people as possible.

“Our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it,” Gummi Hafsteinsson, product lead for the Google Assistant, wrote in a blog post published on Sunday. “With this update, hundreds of millions of Android users will now be able to try out the Google Assistant.”

Companies ranging from appliance maker Whirlpool Corp to Ford Motor Co announced products featuring Amazon’s Alexa assistant at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, leading some analysts to conclude the online retailer had gained an early lead over Google.

What is more, Android manufacturer Huawei Technologies Co announced it would support Alexa, highlighting the cost of Google’s decision to feature the assistant on its own hardware before opening it up to partners, said analyst Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research.

“Clearly Google needs to move forward because their battle in the future is not going to be over the operating system, it’s going to be about assistant platforms,” said analyst Bob O’Donnell of TECHnalysis Research.

Google cannot trust that its assistant will be the default on all devices in the Android ecosystem. Leading manufacturer Samsung Electronics has announced plans for an assistant, and other companies are reportedly working on the technology.

“Some big manufacturers have decided to go their own way,” Dawson said. “But a lot of manufacturers simply can’t afford to develop their own.”

Senior Taliban commander killed in northern Afghanistan air strike

KUNDUZ: After having been declared dead several times in the past, a senior Taliban commander has been killed in an air strike in northern Afghanistan, officials of the militant group confirmed on Monday.

Mullah Abdul Salam Akhund, who commanded Taliban forces in Kunduz, was one of three fighters killed in a weekend strike by an unmanned aircraft, a senior Taliban official in the province told Reuters, on condition of anonymity to ensure his safety.

"He was on a journey a few days ago and stopped at a house at Dashte Archi town when the drone fired missiles," said the official.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed Akhund's death in a statement.

A U.S. military spokesman said an American warplane had conducted a strike in Kunduz on Sunday, but the command did "not have confirmation of the results".

The strike killed Akhund and eight other Taliban, said Sher Aziz Kamawal, a senior police commander in northern Afghanistan.

Akhund, who oversaw the Taliban offensive that briefly seized Kunduz city in 2015, had previously been reported dead several times by Afghan officials.

This time however, his apparent death was confirmed by top Taliban officials, including a commander in the eastern province of Khost.

"It's part of our life," the commander told Reuters. "We are proud to confirm that he was martyred for a cause."

Iran tests missiles in naval exercises

TEHRAN: Iran´s navy has test-fired the latest versions of the Nasr and Dehlaviyeh missiles during military exercises in the Gulf, local media reported on Monday.

"The latest naval cruise missile called Nasr was test-fired during Velayat 95 naval manoeuvres in the southern waters of the country," said Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan, according to the Fars news agency, adding that the missile had successfully hit its target.

Tasnim news agency said the Dehlaviyeh, a laser-guided missile, had also been successfully tested.

It was reported back in 2012 that Iran had based the Dehlaviyeh on a Russian anti-tank missile.

The ranges of the latest versions were not given.

Five soldiers killed in militant attack from Afghanistan

RAWALPINDI: Five soldiers were killed when three check posts in Mohmand Agency came under militant attack from across the border in the wee hours on Monday, an ISPR statement said.

Pakistan Army responded befittingly to the attack killing 10 militants in the retaliatory fire, it stated.

Chief of Army Staff, Gen Qamar Bajwa has appreciated response by Pakistani troops to last night cross border terrorists’ attack in Mohmand Agency. He Emphasized need for required physical presence on Afghan side of the border for matching and effective border security. “Terrorists are common threat and must be denied freedom of movement/action along the border,” the COAS said.

Expressing grief on loss of precious lives the COAS hailed the sacrifice made by brave sons of soil.

The soldiers who lost their lives are Naik Sanaullah, Naik Safdar, Sepoy Altaf, Sepoy Nek Muhammad, and Sepoy Anwar
