4 coaches that may replace Arsene

4 coaches that may replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal

rsenal boss Arsene Wenger is facing the heat once again following his team 5-1 battering at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, February 15.
The Gunners now face a last 16 exit in the Champions League for a seventh consecutive season, and pressure is piling on the Frenchman to resign at the end of the season, after his contract expires.
Recall that Arsenal chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, last month hinted that Wenger may not sign a new contract come the end of the season.

“Arsenal is not Arsene Wenger. They’re not one in the same thing,” Gazidis said.
He added: “He’s been clear and we’ve always been clear, that’s a mutual decision as to how long he’ll continue.
“Both need to be on the same page on that. In a football sense, he has transformed the club.”
NAIJ.com in this piece presents six possible options to replace Wenger, should he leave Arsenal at the end of this season after more than 20 years at the club.
1. Eddie Howe
Reports in some quarters indicate that Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has been selected by Gunner board room members as the man to replace Wenger.
The board is impressed with his attacking style of play and are encouraged by the fact that he is young and English.

Howe has done a fantastic job with Bournemouth, first taking over with the club in League Two and securing three promotions to lead them to the Premier League.
It is an immense achievement, but those promotions are his biggest honours in the game and he has no experience of managing a title-challenging side or one in the Champions League.
2. Patrick Vieira
He is also a potential replacement going by his legendary status at Arsenal.
However, Vieira’s only managerial experience is with New York City FC, which will count against him.

The Frenchman made 406 appearances for the Gunners from 1996-2005, scoring 33 goals.
3. Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel ascended to the Borussia Dortmund job after forging a good reputation at Mainz whom he led to their highest ever Bundesliga finish.
The 43-year-old German replaced Jurgen Klopp at the Westfalenstadion.

Although he has no managerial honour to his name, Tuchel secured a second place finish for Dortmund last season and his achievement in a short period could hand him the Arsenal job.
4. Diego Simeone
One of the most sought after managers on the planet after his exploits with Atletico Madrid, winning La Liga in 2014 and twice reaching the Champions League final.

He has been in charge at Atletico since 2011 and his achievement for the club could trigger interest from the Arsenal board.

According to former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys, the former striker was denied entry as he “has an Iranian stamp in his passport”.
He wrote this morning: “Well done @realDonaldTrump. Man U ambassador Dwight Yorke denied transit access to Miami cause he has Iranian stamp in passport. #crazy”.

President Trump passed a controversial executive order banning visas for seven Muslim countries, including Iran, which the Trinidad international has purportedly visited.
Well done @realDonaldTrump. Man U ambassador Dwight Yorke denied transit access to Miami cause he has Iranian stamp in passport.
The law temporarily prohibits nearly all citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days – including those who have visited those nations.
Yorke's role as an ambassador at the Red Devils takes him all over the world, particularly playing for United legends XI’s in overseas friendlies.
After joining from Aston Villa in 1998, Yorke enjoyed a prolific four years under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, scoring 65 goals in 147 games in all competitions.
He won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and the 1998/99 Champions League title before moving on to Blackburn in 2002.

3 reasons we have not started selling forms - JAMB

3 reasons we have not started selling forms - JAMB registrar

Forms for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are not on sale yet. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained why.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede
The JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede himself explained the reason for the delay which is very unlike that of previous years.
He gave the following reasons:
The registrar explained that one reason for the delay was due to issues the board had with sale of scratch cards.
He said that whereas candidates used to buy scratch cards to access the forms online previously, they planned to cancel that since it had been abused thoroughly.
According to Daily Trust, he said: “What we want to do is for students to pay directly to government coffers and we are working out the process of doing so to avoid the type of abuse that it has been subjected to.
“So, we want to sell directly and to make sure that candidates pay into TSA account. We have cases of students saying their scratch cards got burnt, others saying their scratch cards were swallowed by snakes or lost in an accident.
“I believe my predecessor did his best. Shortly before I came, he dismissed 12 staff on issues relating to the sale of scratch cards or e-facility cards as we called it. I need to build on it by cancelling the whole process."
2. Timetable
The second reason given was the clash of timetables for which JAMB had met other exam bodies.
Prof Oloyede said: “Another reason is that we do not want our students to suffer as a result of clash in timetable. Students have to take NECO, WAEC and NABTEB exams.
"That is why we held meetings with examination bodies and agreed to realign our timetable. There is no time yet for the sale of forms."
3. Fraudsters
The last reason as given by the board, is the proliferation of fraudsters. Prof said: "Fraudsters thought we are going to sell scratch cards and they have started selling fake forms and we are now arresting them. We have to thank the security agencies, particularly the NSCDC.
"Between August last year and now, not less than four people have been convicted by courts and have been sentenced either as students or as fake business men. So that is the kind of signal we want to send.”

Valentine's Day 2017

Valentine's Day 2017: History And Reason Behind It's Celebration

Every February 14, people across the world exchange candy, flowers and gifts with their loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. It is considered to the best day to express your love and care for your special one or even express your feelings to the one you love. But do they really know the history behind this day? Here is how it started:

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three early Christian saints by that name. One was a priest in Rome, another a bishop in Terni, and the third, St. Valentine which almost nothing is known about, except that he met his end in Africa. Astonishingly, all the three Valentines were said to have been martyred on February 14.

Valentine who was a priest, served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine felt this was unfair so he celebrated marriages in secret. When the emperor found out he was thrown in jail and sentenced to death.

It wasn't until more than 200 years later that 14 February was proclaimed St Valentine's Day. By this time Rome had become Christian and the Catholic Church was determined to stamp out any remaining paganism. A pagan fertility ritual was held in February each year and the Pope abolished this festival and proclaimed 14 February Saint Valentine's Day, thus establishing this feast day on the Catholic Calendar of Saints.

Valentine's Day History

Valentine's Day History

Pagan festivals, Christian saints, Chaucer's love birds, and the Greeting Card Association of America

Roman Roots

The history of Valentine's Day is obscure, and further clouded by various fanciful legends. The holiday's roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I recast this pagan festival as a Christian feast day circa 496, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day.

Valentines Galore

Which St. Valentine this early pope intended to honor remains a mystery: according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three early Christian saints by that name. One was a priest in Rome, another a bishop in Terni, and of a third St. Valentine almost nothing is known except that he met his end in Africa. Rather astonishingly, all three Valentines were said to have been martyred on Feb. 14.
Most scholars believe that the St. Valentine of the holiday was a priest who attracted the disfavor of Roman emperor Claudius II around 270. At this stage, the factual ends and the mythic begins. According to one legend, Claudius II had prohibited marriage for young men, claiming that bachelors made better soldiers. Valentine continued to secretly perform marriage ceremonies but was eventually apprehended by the Romans and put to death. Another legend has it that Valentine, imprisoned by Claudius, fell in love with the daughter of his jailer. Before he was executed, he allegedly sent her a letter signed "from your Valentine." Probably the most plausible story surrounding St. Valentine is one not focused on Eros (passionate love) but on agape (Christian love): he was martyred for refusing to renounce his religion.
In 1969, the Catholic Church revised its liturgical calendar, removing the feast days of saints whose historical origins were questionable. St. Valentine was one of the casualties.

Chaucer's Love Birds

It was not until the 14th century that this Christian feast day became definitively associated with love. According to UCLA medieval scholar Henry Ansgar Kelly, author of Chaucer and the Cult of Saint Valentine, it was Chaucer who first linked St. Valentine's Day with romance.
In 1381, Chaucer composed a poem in honor of the engagement between England's Richard II and Anne of Bohemia. As was the poetic tradition, Chaucer associated the occasion with a feast day. In "The Parliament of Fowls," the royal engagement, the mating season of birds, and St. Valentine's Day are linked:
For this was on St. Valentine's Day,
When every fowl cometh there to choose his mate.

Tradition of Valentine's Cards

Flower
Over the centuries, the holiday evolved, and by the 18th century, gift-giving and exchanging handmade cards on Valentine's Day had become common in England. Hand-made valentine cards made of lace, ribbons, and featuring cupids and hearts eventually spread to the American colonies. The tradition of Valentine's cards did not become widespread in the United States, however, until the 1850s, when Esther A. Howland, a Mount Holyoke graduate and native of Worcester, Mass., began mass-producing them. Today, of course, the holiday has become a booming commercial success. According to the Greeting Card Association, 25% of all cards sent each year are valentines.

Expectations high on Buhari's return

Expectations high on Buhari’s return On February 12, 201712:24 amIn NewsComments By Levinus Nwabughiogu First Lady, Aisha, thanks Nigerians for praying for President Expectations were high in Abuja, yesterday, ahead of the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from London, United Kingdom (UK) today. Meanwhile, First Lady Aisha, returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia, yesterday, expressing gratitude to Nigerians for supporting and praying for her husband. Buhari had left Nigeria on January 19 on 10-day medical vacation in London and was expected back in the country on February 6. But at the expiration of the vacation, the President wrote the National Assembly, extending his stay indefinitely.First lady, Aisha Buhari, flanked by (r) Toyin Saraki, wife of Senate President, and others after her arrival from Saudi Arabia, yesterday Speculations had been rife that the President would return this weekend barring any last minute changes. This development quickly prompted expectations on The Presidency and Abuja, the federal capital, yesterday. Sunday Vanguard’s request for confirmation of the President’s possible return, last night, from the Presidency did not yield any fruit as the State House media team seemed not to be in the know of the goings-on. Aisha Buhari, who returned to the country, yesterday, appreciated Nigerians for supporting her husband’s administration. The wife of the President also prayed for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria. She made the prayer shortly after her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Saudi Arabia where she performed the Lesser Hajj. Aisha, who arrived at about 3:15 pm, was received by the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, the wives of the governors of Kebbi and Kogi States, wives of the Service Chiefs as well as a former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Pauline Tallen.PRESIDENT BUHARI IN LONDON: PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI RECEIVES APC CHIEFTAINS, SENATOR BOLA AHMED TINUBU AND CHIEF BISI AKANDE, AT ABUJA HOUSE IN LONDON ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2017 ‘’I thank God for journey mercies. Trump seeks to break DC bubble

Trump seeks to break DC bubble
© Provided by The Hill Trump seeks to break DC bubble
President Trump is trying to fight the confines of the presidential bubble.
Less than a month after taking office, Trump, a man who loathes boredom and has a penchant for doing things his way, is trying his best to keep things the way they were before he won the presidency.
He tweets what's on his mind. He has refused to give up his unsecured Android phone. And he flies to the warmth of his Florida home Mar-a-Lago on the weekends - just like old times.
Presidents and first families often bristle as they feel the White House walls closing in on them under a constant media spotlight and vast security detail.
Trump, arguably even more than his predecessors, has had difficulty giving up his past life.
Friends note that the billionaire already had a luxurious penthouse in the world famous skyscraper that carries his name. He has a nicer plane than Air Force One. And he even owns his own $7 million chopper.
After Trump was elected, Christopher Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax media and a friend of the president's who speaks to him often, heard through the grapevine that Trump wouldn't return to Mar-a-Lago until Easter.
That didn't turn out to be true - which was no surprise to Ruddy.
"I thought, 'Yeah right,'" Ruddy said in an interview. "He's not going to like Washington... He's not a Washington guy."
Trump left Washington Friday to head to Mar-a-Lago with a new friend - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
It's the second weekend in a row that Trump will spend at his Florida residence.
In the winter, Ruddy said Trump prefers to be in Florida, where it is warm, where he has plenty of friends, and where he can play golf to unwind.
"He's been going [to Mar-a-Lago] for almost 30 years," Ruddy said. "It's just part of his life."
Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have relocated to Washington, D.C. to be close to the president. His wife Melania has stayed in New York, where the couple's young son is in school.
Sources predict Trump will be reluctant to change his life to fit into the White House perimeters.
"Washington thinks the presidency is going to change him and I'm telling you the presidency is going to be changed by him," one Trump associate, familiar with the president's thinking said. "He doesn't know or care to know how Washington thinks is the proper way to do things."
The associate said while Trump has a fondness for the history of the White House, he ultimately sees it "as a place to work. Not so much a place to live."
"It's the world's nicest prison," the associate said. "It's all-confining."
Twitter is one way for the president to connect to the outside world.
Each day Trump types out 140-character, free-wheeling missives on everything from his immigration ban, to his daughter's severed ties with Nordstrom to the ratings for "Celebrity Apprentice."
The tweets have caused problems for the president.
On Thursday, after Trump tweeted that Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) had misrepresented what Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch had told him in a meeting, it put him at odds with White House staffers who were in the room with him.
"Someone needs to tell him that all these extemporaneous comments are probably not in the best interest of his larger message," one Republican consultant said. "He can't just say whatever is on his mind. It's pushing the limits too much."
Sometimes the tweets are revealing.
Trump's tweets often reflect his penchant for watching cable news. A story will appear on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," and minutes later there will be a Trump tweet.
Jeffrey Lord, a Trump supporter who also served in the Reagan White House, suspects the president won't change much of the way he's doing business because he thinks it's working for him.
In fact, he suspects Trump may begin doing more rallies, a throwback to the campaign and another means of breaking loose of Washington.
"This is his way of staying in touch with the real world and his way of dealing with [the bubble]," Lord said. "This bubble business is a hard thing to deal with when you're president so you make a conscious effort to make it not ruin your life."
Ruddy himself wondered how his friend with no political experience or friends in Washington would adjust to life in the White House.
But last week, while chatting with Melania while the Trumps were in town for the weekend, the first lady told him that Trump "really loves the place."
"He's going to break the bubble," Ruddy says. "He's going to burst it."

Diezani is alleged to have bought the edifice between 2011 and 2012
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the discovery of a porperty in Lagos worth a whopping $37.5million totalling N11.75bn which allegedly belongs to former oil minister Alison Diezani-Madueke.
Vanguard reports that the money which was said to allegedly belong to Diezani follows the announcement of acting chairman of the anti-corruption body Ibrahim Magu on Thursday, February 9 that 9.75 million dollars and 750,000 pounds were recovered from a residence in Kaduna state.
The EFCC said Diezani reportedly bought the building in Lagos’ top class location Banana Island between 2011 and 2012 at a total cost of $37.5m from the YF Construction Development and Real Estate.
The commission said: “The aggressive drive by the EFCC to recover all hidden assets of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is under investigation for corruption and money laundering, produced another breakthrough this week with the discovery of a property acquired through shell companies by the former minister at upscale Banana Island in Lagos.
“The property is a 15-storey edifice comprising 18 flats and six penthouses.
“The property was acquired by the former minister between 2011 and 2012 at a total cost of $37.5m from the developers, YF Construction Development and Real Estate. The property was allegedly acquired in the name of a shell company, Rusimpex Limited under the control of certain Mr. Afamefuna Nwokedi of Stillwaters law firm, in Lagos.”

South-West governors to meet in Ekiti on Monday to tackle development challenges

Idowu Adelusi, the chief press secretary to the Ekiti state governor, in a statement on Thursday, February 9, said the ‎meeting would be in furtherance of the resolve of the governors of the six states of the South-West to meet on a regular basis to continue to pursue a unified frame-work for tackling the development challenges of the region.
The meeting is expected to take some critical decisions in respect of the mission of the development agenda for Western Nigeria, for which all the state governments have declared their commitment.

Governors from the following states are to attend the meeting, namely Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos.
Last year, the South west governors were engaged in an economic forum to discuss the issue of finance especially how it affects the region especially in the economically challenging period.
The economic forum was held in Ibadan, Oyo state on Monday, November 21 and was hosted by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
In attendance were Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti.

Will Buhari’s death bring solution to Nigeria’s problems?

Will Buhari’s death bring solution to Nigeria’s problems?

The rate at which our people are moving from mountain to campgrounds in prayer; wishing their President Muhammadu Buhari urgent death is very shocking and disappointing. Truly, the president is very sick and he's receiving treatments abroad. But, the question that has been troubling my mind is that, when one's relative is not feeling too well, do we pray he dies, irrespective of any reason whatsoever?

Trump finds the limits of executive power

Trump finds the limits of executive power

President Donald Trump suffered more than a legal defeat of his immigration ban Thursday night.

He ran smack into the limits of executive power.
Three federal judges unanimously refused to restore the White House's controversial travel ban, laying down the most significant marker yet that Trump's vision of an administration rooted in the muscular use of executive power -- similar to that he enjoyed as a business leader -- will not go unchallenged.
In a stinging rebuke, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the administration's argument that the judiciary lacked the authority to block the travel ban as "contrary to the fundamental structure of our constitutional democracy."
The tone and content of the decision immediately called into question Trump's gamble in enacting such a fundamental reshaping of the nation's immigration laws through presidential order rather than a law debated and passed by Congress.

New doubts

The embarrassment of Thursday's ruling raises new doubts about the effectiveness of the President's unorthodox method of doing business. In this case, the tendency to draw up plans without much outside input has not served the White House well. The relative inexperience of Trump's core advisers may also have been a factor.
It is now certain that the saga of the immigration ban, which has consumed the presidency for two of its three weeks and is distracting from other priorities, will run on indefinitely with possible damaging consequences for the young administration.
But the President, who came to office predicting an avalanche of wins and warning that only he could fix the multiple crises he diagnosed as ailing the national soul, is a long way from admitting a final defeat. Drawing on the pugilistic instincts that sustained his business career, he dug in for a counter attack.
"SEE YOU IN COURT," Trump tweeted minutes after the ruling came down, previewing a possible appeal to the Supreme Court that would set up an even more dramatic and consequential showdown.
A few minutes later, the President began the task of using the decision to galvanize his devoted armies of supporters who sent him to Washington to carry out reforms exactly on the lines of his original executive order.
"It's a political decision, we're going to see them in court, and I look forward to doing that," Trump told reporters at the White House. "We have a situation where the security of our country is at stake and it's a very very serious situation."
The ruling came with Trump waging feuds on multiple fronts with various lawmakers on Capitol Hill and with his own approval ratings at lower levels than ever seen for a newly inaugurated president.
Democratic opponents hailed the decision as an affirmation of the principles on which the nation is based and a precursor of likely pitched legal battles to come on the extent of Trump's power.

Check and balance'

"I am pleased that our check and balance system is working in this country," Ben Cardin, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "It shows that the courts are going to be there when President Trump uses his power and exceeds his constitutional authority. I think that is an important message that our constitutional system will work."
But the President's allies quickly moved to contain the damage and to frame the terms of the political and legal fight ahead.
Arkansas GOP Sen. Tom Cotton said the order was plainly legal and argued the courts shouldn't second guess the national security decisions of the president.

"This misguided ruling is from the Ninth Circuit, the most notoriously left-wing court in America and the most reversed court at the Supreme Court," Cotton said. "I'm confident the administration's position will ultimately prevail."
The Supreme Court could still rule in favor of the administration, either on the merits of the case or the issue of standing of foreigners on whose behalf the challenge to Trump's executive order was brought by the state of Washington.
But the possibility of the nation's highest bench being called upon to clear up a growing legal imbroglio will also open a new political fight. The Supreme Court is currently lacking its ninth member owing to the prolonged Washington standoff following the death last year of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Should the Court hear the case and split 4-4, the ruling of the 9th Circuit would be affirmed. That fact alone adds heat to the confirmation duel looming over the nomination of Trump's first Supreme Court pick, Neil Gorsuch.
Republicans now have even more of an incentive to ram the confirmation through the Senate using the "nuclear option" to sidestep a Democratic filibuster. Democrats are even less likely to cooperate with a swift process.

Who is Judge Neil Gorsuch? 00:48
The 9th Circuit decision, however, seemed designed to shape the future arguments about the content of the executive order and the administration's attempts to significantly stiffen the government's anti-terrorism campaign.
It went far further in its ruling than the simple question of the stay on the travel ban imposed by a lower court, taking pains to dismantle the administration's assertion that the travel ban was vital to protecting Americans against an influx of foreign terror threats from the seven named nations, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Libya and Syria.
"The Government has pointed to no evidence that any alien from any of the countries named in the Order has perpetrated a terrorist attack in the United States," the ruling said.
"Rather than present evidence to explain the need for the Executive Order, the Government has taken the position that we must not review its decision at all.

Gucci Mane & Nicki Minaj Reunite

It seems like Nicki Minaj is really taking this new year seriously. After announcing her breakup from Meek Mill, she is making the rounds reconnecting with some people she’d grown distant with.
The latest is Gucci Mane, who the Queens rapper took a picture with for the Gram. The Trap King shared the post with the caption “Salute and much respect to @nickiminaj Zone6 stand up!!! #staytuned Legendary” and both of them holding up six fingers.

Back in September, a reconciliation between the two didn’t seem close as Gucci told Hot 97 that his relationship with the Young Money rapper “is what it is. It ain’t even that serious. We made some records before and they were dope records but that’s in the past.”
The feud went public when the two sparred on Twitter back in 2013. Among his posts, Gucci rattled off a list of artists he didn’t mess with, including Minaj.
“Fuck jeezy. Tip. Gotti. Waka.Nicki minaj drake d a Wooh.frenchy 2 chainz coachk kkaior eminem oj rock Quavo takeoff cardo dam g,” the tweet said, before his brother claimed the account was hacked.
Nicki was among those who responded to the rant, writing, “I’m rlly cracking up. He’s fighting so hard for one more ounce of relevance. Tyga and I turned down his feature request last Thursday.”
Guwop was one of the first to show support to Minaj in her career, appearing on “Slumber Party” off her 2009 mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty, and doing various other tracks with her.
Nicki also reunited with Drake recently, posting a photo of herself, Drizzy and Lil Wayne in the studio. Drake later hinted at a Young Money reunion concert while playing a show in London, England.
